When Jake woke up a week after receiving the police radio he noticed that his right hand felt wet. He didn't think much of it at first; his apartment had a leaky roof. But this felt like his entire hand was coated in some sort of liquid gel. Jake lifted his hand in front of his face and yelled. A yellow-green substance was flowing from his fingertips, making slow progress up his arm despite the fact that his elbow pointed at the ceiling.
"What the devil is happening?"
Jake shook his arm to try and fling the stuff off, but it didn't budge. He leapt out of bed and ran to the bathroom, quickly turning the tap with his unaffected left arm, and stuck his right under the water. As soon as the water touched the substance it turned to ice, falling on Jake's foot and shattering. He grabbed a towel and wiped his arm vigorously, but nothing happened other than the towel becoming very cold. Jake swore. He ran over to the phone and began to call his doctor, but midway through the numbers realized he wouldn't be in his office at four in the morning. The stuff now coated his arm up to the shoulder. Rather than cover his bare chest completely, however, it made wavy lines that intersected at varying intervals, covering his torso in criscrossed lines of yellow-green. Jake suddenly felt searing pain. He managed to stand for a few seconds before collapsing onto the floor, unable to stand the agony that shook his body. He was falling, and all around him were skulls covered in the same stuff that was covering him. They were screaming in eternal agony, and he found that he too was screaming. He fell into a huge blob formed of human skeletons glued together by the goo and felt as it tried to consume him. He fought desperately, unwilling to let this creature win, for he knew that if he gave up, his soul would be lost forever. Somewhere in the distance he heard a siren, and he fought harder. He thrashed, clawing his way out of the creature even as it pushed him back in. Next to him was a skeleton, and he grabbed its femur, wrenched it from the rest of its body, and shoved it through the outer "skin" of the blob. He reached for the edges of the newly formed hole and pulled himself through, gasping for air. He heard small wheels beneath him, going he knew not where. The blob was trying to crush him, to obliterate him once and for all, and he was digging through the skulls, trying to escape, trying to find the light...
The light. It was bright, shining in his eyes. All around him was white. People in white, a white bed in which he lay, white walls, white floor. Points of color suddenly danced before his vision, and he saw through a haze of swirling blues and greens. Suddenly someone spoke.
"He's waking up..."
