Jake looked around his apartment. It was small and had no furniture, but it was affordable. His old furniture would arrive soon enough. A day had passed since the capture of Lord Grimlock, and he had managed to negotaite a new job as a corporate security guard in the Roxxon Oil offices, and it would cover the rent. He wondered what had become of the strange tattooed beast he had battled. It had returned just in time to save him from a grisly end caused by twelve handguns, but he hadn't seen it since. Nonetheless he had captured two supervillians in one day, which he considered quite a feat. They were the little fish though, and New York boasted plenty of far deadlier criminals. As Jake considered this he noticed his newly bought cell phone ringing. He flipped it on.
"Hello?"
"Jake Jensen: I have important information for you. Meet me at Coney Island, near the ferris wheel. Hurry, they may be onto me already."
"Who is this?"
But the line had been disconnected. Jake stared at his phone for a moment, then sighed, picked up his jacket, and headed out the door.

Coney Island was no longer the same fairground it had been in previous years. It was still, however, a popular destination, and Jake had no idea where to start looking for the mysterious caller. He hadn't been looking long, however, when his problem was resovled for him. A man beckoned to Jake from the shadows. Jake followed. The man removed a badge emblazoned with F.B.I. from his jacket pocket.
"Mr. Jake Jensen. There is no need to be alarmed that we know your identity and unusual characteristics. Your secret is safe with us. I am agent Paul Browning, and I am here to speak to you about a man you apprehended, a man calling himself Lord Grimlock. You see, Mr. Jensen, things don't work out here the way they do in movies. We need evidence and witnesses to convict Grimlock. Grimlock very nearly became powerful, but you thwarted that attempt. His powers are rather weak compared to most villians, but he has villians stronger than he on his payroll. That is why we need you. A witness is being escorted by the police to an F.B.I. safehouse. We fear that Grimlock's hired help will attack. We have sent a full team of undercover police with the witness, but we would feel much safer if you came along as well. Besides, given that he managed to nullify your powers you probably want him behind bars as much as we do. This shouldn't take more than an hour, so you won't be late for your new security guard job."
The amount agent Browning knew about him was beginning to disturb Jake. Was he that easy to monitor? Then again, this assignment would give him a chance to worry about real supervillians and help lock Grimlock away.
"You're on, Mr. Browning. Where should I meet your men?"
Agent Browning handed Jake a slip of paper with an address on it.
"Be there in twenty minutes. We will be observing your progress. Good day, Mr. Jensen."
Agent Browning tipped his hat and melted into the crowd. Jake headed for the address he had been given, hoping he could live up to the F.B.I.'s expectations.

Jake arrived just in time to see the men he was supposed to meet about to leave without him. He waved and ran to catch up. The man in front looked relieved.
"Worried we'd have to leave without ya. We're mighty spooked. It's been way too quiet today."
"Well, i'm here. Lets go."
They had walked for a block when Jake was sure something was behind him. He began to turn, then saw a sharpened steel boomerang speed toward the witness. He tackled the witness just in time, the deadly projectile speeding past his ear with a deafening whooshing. He had heard about the man who employed this tactic: A man known as Boomerang, the killer who keeps coming back. This was a real villian, not a small time mercenary. Jake turned and fired with eldritch power at Boomerang, who dodged the blasts with ease. Boomerang drew a device known as the screamerang from his costume and threw it, making an earsplitting sound. Jake went ethereal, for in the paralell world he entered when going ethereal high-frequency sounds were inaudible. He came back to the normal world and fired again, then grabbed a trashcan lid and deflected the razorang as it came at him again. Real Villians certainly weren't pushovers, Jake thought. This battle could go on for a while, but the witness was his first priority. Boomerang noticed the witness was getting away and threw his razorang once again. Jake leapt forward, trashcan lid extended, hoping he would be in time to block the blow...

The razorang impacted with Jake's makeshift shield, throwing shield, weapon, and man to the ground. Jake fell heavily on the cement, winded. He looked up and saw the witness and his protectors escape around the corner. They were only a yard from the safehouse and Boomerang would never reach them in time to launch another attack. Boomerang knew that he had lost his quarry. He disappeared between the tall apartment buildings, knowing that his employer would now be in jail so he need not fear his wrath. Jake jumped up and ran to the safehouse. The witness was now safely inside. He turned around and nearly ran into Agent Browning.
"Excellent work, Mr. Jensen. Many other heroes have recieved what I am about to give you, and it has helped them in their efforts. Here is a police radio monitor. I hope to hear great things about you in the future. Good luck, Mr. Jensen."
With that Agent Browning was gone. Jake couldn't believe his eyes. His hand tightened around the pocket-sized radio monitor he had just recieved, and he shook his head. Looking at his watch he discovered it was time for him to go to work. He ran down the street, hoping he would arrive at the Roxxon building on time. He didn't want to lose his job before it even started.
